  • Lifenews.com:

Last week, LifeNews.com reported on a mailing Mitt Romney’s campaign sent to South Carolina voters. The campaign piece makes it appear Romney is the only Republican presidential candidate who is pro-life or supports a human life amendment to the Constitution. While campaigning in South Carolina last week, reporters asked GOP hopeful Fred Thompson about the piece. “Until about two years ago, when he decided he was going to run for president, Governor Romney was the most adamant pro-choice advocate that I’ve ever seen,” Thompson said. “You know, pull it up on the YouTube sometime of his debates and when he was running for governor and see the fervor with which he held his pro-choice beliefs.” Thompson added: “Now he’s entitled to change his mind, but I don’t think that he ought to be casting aspersions on anybody in terms of pro-life, pro choice issues.”

Let me start this blog off with a simple question: Do you feel like I do?

Of course some of you will remember this question as made famous by legendary rock star Peter Frampton, but I am specifically referring to the moment of anticipation that comes before a presidential debate. The feeling is almost electric, as waves of energy seemingly wash over the campaign headquarters.

Tonight is the first, groundbreaking CNN/Youtube debate that will feature a colorful array of questions submitted on Youtube by concerned citizens. I’m positive that our grassroots supporters feel the same passionate enthusiasm for tonight’s debate as we do at the headquarters. I, for one, will be anxiously pacing in front of the television set waiting for the debate to start at 8pm ET.

“The late-fall night fairly crackled with energy — from a persistent Santa Ana wind, the high-tension power lines overhead and, especially, from the crowd packed inside the living room of a ranch house at the west end of the San Gabriel Valley.

“Eighty people sat elbow to elbow on tight rows of folding chairs, chattering with enthusiasm and ideas. They would produce wall calendars and a concert. They would reenact the Boston Tea Party on the Santa Monica Pier. They would write to every independent voter in Iowa.

Ron Paul vanquished the competition in the annual Virginia GOP retreat straw poll by collecting 182 votes (38%). Despite having former senator George Allen and current Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnall speaking on his behalf, Fred Thompson managed only 112 votes (23%). While Mike Huckabee, who was represented by his wife, finished a distant third with 51 votes (11%).

Several long-time Republican leaders including conservative icon Morton Blackwell complemented the Paul campaign on their strong organization and mobilization efforts, according to Ron Paul National Field Director Dennis Fusaro, who spoke on Dr. Paul’s behalf at the event. Fusaro went on to say that, while this reflects the organizational strength of the Paul campaign around the country, it is essential that Virginia Ron Paul Republicans replicate this turn-out on a county-by-county basis at next year’s mass meetings. Fusaro went on to congratulate the grassroots for, once again, coming out to support Dr. Paul in an unprecedented manner.

Want to know a secret? There were two moments I especially enjoyed at the CNN/YouTube debate — despite my frustration at some of the questions, and the maldistribution of time.

First, I was pleased at John McCain’s attack, which he clearly had planned. Not because that sort of stream-of-consciousness nonsense about Hitler and WWII — when the neocons openly want what they call WW IV! Are we to forget that the first war crime charged at Nuremberg was waging aggressive war?

Here’s a video shot during Fred’s walk-around before last week’s Presidential debate. As always Fred found a way to inject some humor. He told a CNN producer, “You have a lot of confidence in Anderson [Cooper] wandering around there with no fence.”

Deerfield, New Hampshire resident Kevin Chalbeck writes in The Portsmouth Herald that Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s proven record of getting results makes him the best candidate to take America forward. “I have decided to support Rudy Giuliani for president. I like his optimistic outlook for a better America for the future. He has proven his leadership abilities in many ways. He transformed New York City from one of the most dangerous cities, into the safest large city in America. By restoring fiscal discipline to a city that was out of control, all at the same time reducing or eliminating 23 city taxes.”

Over the weekend, in Stratham, New Hampshire, Mayor Rudy Giuliani talked about his commitment to lower taxes and excess regulation to stimulate the economy and create new jobs, to achieve victory in Iraq, and to end illegal immigration and secure our borders. Stratham resident Sue Hunter attended to meet Giuliani in person. "He addressed an issue I hadn’t thought about before. In New Hampshire, we’re not as aware of illegal aliens, but I thought (Giuliani) had positive ideas," Hunter said. Bruce Scamman said, "My wife and I are huge supporters of the mayor. You don’t find a leader like that every day of the week."
