It’s 4 P.M. Do you know where your caucus is?
Iowa’s state flag reads “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.”
What a fitting motto for the state that tonight will serve as the proving ground for the Democratic field.
In little over a year, a new President will be sworn into the Oval Office. That person will be tasked with many jobs from Day One, but perhaps none is more important than the restoration of our Constitution following eight years of abuse at the hands of the Bush administration.
I’m settling into the Temple for Performing Arts in Des Moines, which is the location for our caucus night rally and results watching party. Staff are putting finishing touches on the room and I’m setting up for a night of reporting results to the online community, while the Foo Fighters are blasting over the stereo system for a sound test.
You can follow precinct by precinct caucus results at the following sites:
Four and a half hours until the caucus doors open. Lots going on in HQ, but boy am I ready to start seeing results from tonight’s caucus.
Bumped for caucus day!!!
You may have noticed a new banner link on the blog and throughout the site for our Caucus Locater Lookup Tool. This tool will allow Iowans to find out there caucus location for January 3rd.
Here’s how it works:
In seven hours, the doors to Democratic precincts around Iowa will close and the caucus will begin. After a year plus of campaigning around the country, polls, media appearances, major policy differences, and minor gaffes actual Democratic voters will have their first chance to tell the nation and the world what they think about our Presidential candidates. This is it.
Right now, the last hours of the mobilization for Chris Dodd in Iowa are taking place. Calls are going out to our supporters from volunteers in our Des Moines phone bank - making sure that every Dodd voter makes it to tonight’s caucus. Precinct captains are getting the final run down of the process and the case they’ll be making to their neighbors tonight when the caucus doors close. We are ready for this.
Karen Kinkel of Des Moines, IA talks about why she’s supporting Chris Dodd for President.
Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) talks about why he’s come to Iowa to campaign for Chris Dodd.
Rep. Courtney is the third Congressman from the Connecticut delegation to come campaign for Chris Dodd in Iowa this week. You can see videos of Congressman John Larson and Congressman Chris Murphy, posted earlier this week. And the fourth CT Democrat in Congress, Rosa DeLauro — she’s national co-chair of the Chris Dodd for President campaign.
Here’s some video from the rally in Indianola this afternoon. Every event I’ve been to on the Caucus for Results Tour has been packed, and today in Indianola was no different. Please excuse the poor sound quality in the beginning of the video–Jackie Dodd delivered an excellent but very quiet introduction to her husband’s speech.
Look out for more video tomorrow as Matt and I cover Caucus Day events in Des Moines.
So, Matt Browner-Hamlin was traveling with Chris Dodd to Ottumwa, Iowa for a little light video blogging when he whipped out his camera … and it was frozen.
