I Will Not Compromise - An Open Letter to libertarians
by Christine Smith, Libertarian candidate for president
“Compromise is but the sacrifice of one right or good in the hope of retaining another–too often ending in the loss of both.”Tryon Edwards (American Theologian, 1809-1894)
I have just posted an announcement on my campaign website which I wish to share with my blog readers.
Since several have asked me about the Libertarian Party’s “Liberty Decides ‘08″ project, you may read my clarification regarding it by clicking here:
Meeting Michael Cloud
I was happy when I learned that Michael Cloud would be the Keynote Speaker at Saturday’s dinner at the Illinois LP Convention.
Having read (and finding much value in re-reading) his excellent book, “Secrets of Libertarian Persuasion,” and having listened to his recorded tapes “The Essence of Political Persuasion,” I was very interested in hearing him speak in person and having the opportunity to finally meet him.
In Conclusion–The Illinois LP Convention was the happiest LP convention I have attended. It was also another victory in regards to my speech and debate performance based upon the numerous emails/calls and support I have received from Illinois Libertarians.
The speech I gave was very well received, and the forum between candidates gave me a perfect opportunity to share with them my strong Libertarian platform and for them to see how well I can communicate that platform. (Even before I left Illinois, many people came to me expressing it was their opinion I had clearly “won the debate” and upon my return to Colorado I have received numerous emails from Illinois Libertarians telling me the same.)
I was so pleased to see Ron Paul introduce the “American Freedom Agenda Act” to Congress, and I urge everyone to tell their representatives to co-sponsor it.
This bill is what America is about…restoring basic American principles ensuring protection from government abuse. Now, more than ever in our history, we must do something to halt tyrannical dictatorial powers and all government abuses (such as suspension of habeas corpus). In my opinion, we’ve got an executive branch that’s out of control - no checks and balances to speak of - and now is the time to stop the downward spiral our government is taking our country on.

This was an excellent LP Convention!
Women in the LP-Meeting Jan Stover-Illinois Convention (Part 3)
So many warm good people I met…and so many activists. I will resume my commentary on speakers from the IL LP Convention (next including Michael Cloud & Michael Badnarik) in my next entry (scroll below to read Parts 1 & 2 regarding the Illinois LP Convention)….but today, in Part 3, I would like to share with all my readers about a strong dedicated Libertarian lady I met who heads up an organization that fills a most needed niche for as Libertarians: It’s called The Mothers Institute “Promoting and Supporting Radical responsible Mothering…For Ourselves, Our Children and Our Nation.”
Jan Stover, Founder & President, told me her group welcomes individuals nationwide…and it indeed a group which I think would appeal to many women in this country. When I think about the millions of women who love their children and wish to instill in them a sense/awareness of individual freedom and personal responsibility (what more could we want our children to learn? That is the key to their happiness & fulfillment in life in my opinion) I have often felt that if only we Libertarian women could join together to share our message of liberty with other women we would gain so many more participants in our shared interests–especially our families and the society which surrounds them.
For me, the highlight of the Illinois Convention was Jacob Hornberger’s Keynote Speech.
Founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation, whose mission is to “advance freedom by providing an uncompromising moral and economic case for individual liberty, free markets, private property, and limited government,” Mr. Hornberger indeed fulfilled that mission in his eloquent powerful Keynote Speech at the Illinois LP Convention Saturday (Oct.13, 2007) in Rockford, IL.
I have read and listened to a lot of Libertarians, but none more moving than Jacob Hornberger.
I invite you to listen to an excellent interview with me in which I discuss how less–not more–government is the solution to healthcare.
It was on the nationally syndicated Healthy Talk Radio, ‘America’s longest-running health talk radio show, broadcasting since 1982,’ with host Deborah Ray (Ray was named among the top 100 most important talk show hosts in America by Talkers Magazine), Sept. 1,) which I shared with you previously, but now the audio archive is available on my website.
Phil Defer, a French journalist with an online political forum, interviewed me via email for his French readers.
He asked many unique questions. You may visit his interview with me at his forum.
The past several days have been busy, and though I took notes about the interviews, I never had an opportunity to post it here.
On October 5 (Friday) I was again interviewed for another AM Colorado radio station (I’ve appeared on several statewide). This interview was recorded with me as a news story which was continually broadcast all day long as the lead news story on KVRH-AM on October 8 (Monday) and was heard throughout the Upper Arkansas Valley region of Colorado which includes Salida, Leadville and Buena Vista.
Having just returned fro the Illinois LP State Convention, I would like to share some of the experiences of the campaign trip there…and will do so over a few blog entries beginning with this one:
Friday, Oct. 12, 2007:
I invite you to listen to my latest audio: One Libertarians’ Response to President Bush’s Sept. 1, 2007 radio address, in which I speak about (among other things) the mortgage crisis and the American economy…a message for Labor Day in particular is included. Come listen for a perspective you will likely not hear from anyone else.
