There are currently many voices shouting out solutions for what is happening in Iraq- voices advocating everything from unrestricted war to a complete and immediate pull out of all U.S. troops- voices as polarized as the broad current political spectrum. Republicans are on one side, Democrats on the other, and, once again, neither side listens at all to the other while shouting out their rhetoric. Based on the apparent wide chasm of public opinion on this issue, I thought Ken and I would be arguing this policy for a while; surprisingly, when you actually listen to the other side, a good and workable solution is not too hard to come to.

Going into the 2008 elections, one place we would like very much to see change is in the Presidential Debates. The current system is exclusionary, and can hardly be considered fair. The Committee on Presidential Debates is co-chaired by the ex-chairmen of the two major parties, third party candidates are mandated to have 15% of the polls in September to even be considered for inclusion, and the current system stifles- not encourages- the free expression of multiple viewpoints.

Last month, The Next Prez; ran a poll between the various candidates for President, and I am happy to report that we came in second for Independents, with over 100 votes overall. Good for our first month in the poll, but I would like to do better- much better!
You can vote now in the October poll, and we hope you will. You can vote in various polls- Democrat, Republican, Green, etc… but we hope you will mainly got and vote in the Independent poll… and vote for us. And get your friends to vote, too- we want to come in first this month!
We have made our position clear- we are for cleaning up campaigns and taking the dirt out of politics. Saying this is one thing, but what is it we mean? In this, as other areas, we will lead by example; our campaign will be the very model of the reforms we propose. We will live and campaign by these high ideals. We will make our ideals public and make our one-sided pact with the American people. In politics, talk is cheap. We offer these promises today, a barometer to measure what kind of people are we. Watch us, and judge us by our actions, and whether we keep our promises before the election; then you will know what type of men Ken and I are.

There are many policy areas where you will hear us we talk about which subjects are a matter for the 50 State governments to decide for themselves, and which subjects are appropriate (and constitutionally acceptable) for the Federal government to step in and create policy.
