Two weeks ago, we asked this incredible grassroots movement to help give Barack Obama an extra day on the road with Iowa voters. Your response? Overwhelming. Because of the number of small donations that poured in, Barack won’t just get one day in Iowa — he’ll get two.

Hillary gave these remarks this evening outside her home before flying to New Hampshire:

“I am very grateful that this difficult day has ended so well. All of my campaign staff and volunteers are safe. I want to thank them for their extraordinary courage and coolness under some very difficult pressures and dangerous situations. I also want to thank all of law enforcement. We were in touch from the moment this began with local, county, state, federal law enforcement. I am so grateful to them for their response which brought this hostage situation to such a good ending.

“I also want to thank Governor Lynch who was extremely helpful in marshalling the resources of the state and working with the local law enforcement officials to make sure that all resources were available. The FBI and the Secret Service lent their expertise and help as well. I was in touch during the day with the families of those who were held hostage and I really commend their extraordinary courage under, again, very difficult circumstances. This has been a very hard day for all of us in our campaign.

Rush Limbaugh said something to the effect that there was only one true conservative at Wednesday night’s debate, and that was Fred Thompson. Here’s a report from RedState:

  • The Sundries Shack:

Fred Thompson has released his tax plan and I have to say that, on first read, it’s pretty good. One of my complaints about most of the candidates this far is that they’re been long on rhetoric and very short on details. Thompson’s plan is the first truly detailed plan I’ve seen come from the Republican side of things (and it may be the first I’ve seen from any candidate, though I seem to remember something coming from the Edwards camp a couple of months ago).

This is exactly what I want to see from the candidates at this point. I don’t care what they say they can do. I want to see, in some fair level of detail, what they plan to do. I want bullet points and numbers and some projection about what the plan could mean for the future if it’s enacted. That’s what Thompson has given us and it’s what more candidates should be providing as quickly as possible.

As you probably noticed the Fred File has been down much of the day. That was due to a problem with our web servers. Only the weblog was effected. Our crack team of web geeks have been working hard all day to get the weblog back online. We’re up, but from looking at the time stamps you’ll see over a day’s worth of posts are missing. Due to technical issues beyond our control they’re gone along with the comments that went with them.

My first instinct was hoping Google’s cache could help. But I haven’t had any luck finding Fred File posts that were published after 12:00 pm on Wednesday. The two I really want back are the debate liveblogging and Rush Limbaugh’s good words about Fred. Yahoo’s cache has the first hour of liveblogging which helps. If you can find those posts and help me reconstruct them it would be appreciated. E-mail me at shackbarth–fred08–dot–com.
