Today in Knoxville, IA, Hillary Clinton offered a serious assessment of the economic challenges facing our country, outlined her plan to restore the middle class, and called for specific steps to reduce foreclosures and help families manage skyrocketing energy bills this winter. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to learn about Senator Clinton’s genuine concern for the common good and how that impacts her decision-making every day. And this past Saturday was no exception. Amidst all the Jefferson Jackson excitement in Des Moines, Senator Clinton said she wanted to bring us all back to center and kickoff a statewide food drive so we might refocus our energy and take some time to give back to our communities. It’s ideas like these that remind me of her true character. Before the evening’s speeches got underway, we had several special visitors in the balcony, including former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and former Lt. Governor Sally Pederson. The beginning of the Jefferson Jackson Dinner is getting closer, and Hillary’s supporters are pouring into Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines. Supporters are everywhere – the streets and hallways are flooded with yellow Hillary shirts. Special guests former DNC Chair and Campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe greeted supporters as they checked in, and tennis legend Billie Jean King shared why she is supporting Hillary. Tonight, Hillary will appear at the Jefferson Jackson dinner in Des Moines, held by the Iowa Democratic Party. Hillary will speak to the 9,000 Democrats in attendance at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Each of the campaigns has a presence in front of the hall (the campaigns began setting up their displays before the sun came up this morning!), with signs everywhere to show their support.
