It’s Halloween, and there are some things that really scare me. . .

October 31, 2008

Over the past few weeks, it is obvious that the McCain campaign has lost and that Barack Obama may well be our next President.  Ghosts and goblins don’t scare me.

Barack Obama does.

Four years of Obama in the White House will lead to the largest movement toward socialism in American history.

Higher taxes, higher spending, government run health care, and elimination of private retirement plans are just a start.

At this point, only one candidate stands between the American taxpayers and unprecedented, massive growth in government and taxes: Bob Barr.

As John McCain has faded, the Bob Barr platform of lower taxes, smaller government, free markets and more personal freedom is catching fire.

Young voters, and especially first time voters, are flocking to Bob Barr in record numbers.  But we need your help to continue this political tsunami that is going to make history next week.

In four days, the Washington establishment is going to hear from us.  They are going to have to sit up and take notice that there is a large and angry segment of the voter population who are fed up with reckless spending, Wall Street Bailouts and corruption.

And our voters believe that BOTH the Republicans and Democrats are to blame.

Help me send them a message.  Your contribution today will fund us for the last 96 hours of this critical campaign.  Click here to give online.  Thanks so very much.

We are making a GOTV push over the next few days. Our call center will be open from 9am to 9pm EDT today. Because so many people are voting early this year, it’s important for us to get on the telephone today to convince as many people as possible to vote for Bob Barr.

Please join us online at LibertyManager.com as soon as possible so we can persuade more voters to cast their ballots for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party.

Let’s make one more push for Liberty in 2008!

Hillary Dispatch: Halloween Special

October 31, 2008

"Trick or Treat" in Ohio: This morning, at an Obama-Biden Halloween rally in Kirtland, OH, Hillary told the crowd:

"I was thinking about dressing up. And I really wanted to be scary. I’ve done the princess stuff, and this time I wanted to be really frightening so I thought I would dress up like George W. Bush.

"Then I realized: John McCain took that costume.

"This Halloween, there is something a lot more frightening than ghosts and goblins and that is the idea that our country would have 4 more years of the same.

"This is our chance my friends. It’s going to either be trick or treat. The trick – we can’t’ fall for that again. The treat is new leadership with a new President in Barack Obama.

"YouTubing" for GOTV: This week, HillPAC released a new video featuring President Clinton and Senator Clinton encouraging "everybody to get involved. Get out. Do what you can. Talk to your friends and your neighbors. Make those phone calls. Walk those streets. Get the word out that this election is really important." Watch here.

Crisscrossing the Country: President Clinton and Senator Clinton continue to crisscross the country for Obama-Biden and other Democrats.

In this past week and Monday alone, the Clintons will have traveled to Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

WBZ News reported on Senator Clinton’s visit to New Hampshire Tuesday to campaign for Obama-Biden and Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen: "

At the rally in Dover, the crowd chanted "Hillary. Hillary." Clinton told them it is time for a new direction. "I feel so strongly we cannot afford four more years of the same failed unproductive policies we’ve had to live with for the last eight years." She added, "Out with the old and in with the blue." On Wednesday Hillary traveled to upstate New York where she endorsed the re-election of Congressman Mike Arcuri in Utica, NY, attended an Erie County Democrats Rally with local Democrats in Buffalo, NY; attended a GOTV Rally for Eric Massa, Dan Maffei Alice Kryzan and local Democrats in Rochester, NY.; and attended the Monroe County Democrats Dinner in Rochester NY. Hillary Sent Me! on Facebook: This week, HillPAC released a new Facebook application to continue driving its grassroots mobilization program

"With a week to go, we must do everything we can to get every vote out for Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Democrats up and down the ticket," HillPAC Internet Director Katie Dowd writes to supporters in an e-mail introducing the program.

"It’s easy, effective, and you can do it on your own schedule. Just log in to Facebook, add HillPAC’s Hillary Sent Me! application, and we’ll give you the numbers and script. You can start making calls right away," Dowd writes. Click here for more information.

Last Chance to Make a Difference & 3 Friends: In two separate e-mail appeals this week, Hillary Clinton urged her supporters to back candidates in tough races across the country:

Last Chance to Make a Difference:

There are just a few short days left before Americans head to the polls, and I’d like to ask you for your help once more…

Here are the Democrats who need your help right now:

In Mississippi, Ronnie Musgrove has shocked the pundits by pulling extremely close in his race to win a Senate seat for Democrats. His conservative, Republican opponent has even resorted to ads attacking me and my supporters. It’s up to you to keep Ronnie’s momentum going.
In Pennsylvania, my good friend John Murtha — a strong supporter for me during the primaries and an important voice against the war in Iraq — is depending on your help to win.

Raul Martinez in Florida has a great chance at picking up a Democratic seat from a conservative Republican incumbent. The latest polling has this race in dead heat and Raul needs our help to push back against Republican attacks.

And in John McCain’s home state of Arizona, Ann Kirkpatrick has a very good chance to pick up a Republican-held seat. She’ll be the first Democrat ever elected in Arizona’s 1st district — if you help her today.

3 Friends:

Let’s get right to it. With one week before Election Day, these three great members of Congress need your help right now…

Kirsten Gillibrand was one of the earliest volunteers in my first race for the Senate back in 2000 helping to organize Women for Hillary. In 2006, she unseated a Republican incumbent in upstate New York; now she faces a tough campaign in her first reelection.
Pennsylvania’s Paul Kanjorski is facing a barrage of negative attacks from Republicans desperate to win his seat. He’s a great friend who works hard on behalf of the people in his district; now he needs our help.

And Joe Sestak — also from Pennsylvania — is a retired admiral who worked in the White House during Bill’s administration. Like Kirsten, he defeated a Republican in 2006, and we need to make sure he wins his race this year so he can continue to speak out for sensible national security policies on behalf of the men and women of our armed forces.

These three friends have been on the front lines fighting for us, and with Barack Obama in the White House they can help put America back on the right path.

GOTV Calling: Lisa in New Jersey

October 31, 2008

In just four days, America will head to the polls with a chance to make history.  However, if we want to see Barack Obama on the winning side of history, it’s time to pull together and do as much as we can from now until Election Day as we begin our Get Out The Vote campaign.

Lisa of Eatontown, New Jersey has already seen first hand how effective you can be by making phone calls from home.

One of my most memorable calls was with an 83 year old man named Jesse who lived in Western Pennsylvania. We talked for over a half hour, about politics and music and life. I realized that one of the more unique things about making these phone calls is that you get introduced to people you might never cross paths with.

Lisa in NJ

This morning, we began our final Get Out The Vote calling campaign. We now have just a few days to contact millions of voters in battleground states across the country. Lisa has been using the shifting poll numbers to stay motivated.

When I heard the plea from Governor Ed Rendell to have Barack come back because he was concerned about Pennsylvania, I picked up the phone and started making calls into Pennsylvania immediately.

Lisa has made over 1,300 phone calls to date, and she’ll be calling again today. This election is too important for anyone to sit on the sidelines.

To get started, just select the state you’d like to call on our national call map.

Your calls are a crucial part of our plan to get all of our supporters out to the polls to cast their vote. We have four days left to make a difference.

Make calls

You can also check in on fellow callers to see how the day’s calls have been going. And if you’ve been making GOTV calls today, let us know what you’re hearing on the phones and any tips you might have for fellow callers . . .

Putting the Economy Back on Track

October 31, 2008

Barack Obama has a plan to restore America’s economy by creating new jobs and providing much-needed relief for ordinary Americans.

The Obama-Biden plan will turn the economy around by providing a $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help middle class Americans pay the costs of their rising bills, and give a sizeable tax cut to working families. This will be paid for by a windfall profits tax on big oil companies who have been reaping in record profits as Americans struggle to fill up their cars to get to work.

Barack also has a plan to stimulate job creation – including investing in alternative energy to create 5 million new “green” jobs.

The hallmark of the Obama-Biden economic plan is much-needed tax relief for the middle class. The Obama-Biden plan will cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers and families – cutting taxes by more than three times the amount the same group would get back under John McCain’s plan. No family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase.

The Obama-Biden plan will even eliminate income taxes altogether for seniors making less than $50,000 per year.

Calculate your tax cut

Finally, Barack has responded to the recent mortgage crisis and has a plan to help American families keep their homes. He will reform bankruptcy laws to give struggling families a shot at avoiding foreclosure, require mortgage companies give accurate mortgage information to homebuyers, and provide a tax credit to help cover 10 percent of a families mortgage interest payments every year.

These are a few of the highlights of Barack Obama’s plan to get the American economy back on track. Watch the video to hear more from Barack:

Weekend for Change

October 31, 2008

This is it. Everything we’ve done comes down to these last four days.

It is more crucial than ever that we step up.

Months of campaigning, the success of crucial issues, and a future full of promise all depend on these last four days. What we are able to do in this short time determines our success.

We need you on the ground, going door to door, making calls, and doing everything possible to get people out to vote. Whatever time you have is essential. The task is straightforward, but the goal could not be more important.

Please sign up for a shift this weekend. There are plenty of opportunities available in every zip code.

If you are in a battleground state, you can canvass and reach out to your neighbors. If you live in a non-battleground state you can Drive for Change to a battleground state or make phone calls to voters.

Sign up to get involved this weekend.

This campaign needs all of us for this final stretch. We have an outstanding organization in place. Now we each need to do our part, and do whatever we can, to push this campaign over the top and elect Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Message from David Plouffe: "Unexpected opportunity"

October 31, 2008

Campaign Manager David Plouffe just sent out this update:

Get a front row seat to history

I’m writing to report that we’re seeing a surge of support in states we didn’t expect to be close contests, including Georgia and North Dakota.

But the latest battleground is a major opportunity:

John McCain’s home state of Arizona — where we go on the air today.

Will you make a donation today to expand our efforts in these new battleground states? Democrats haven’t been able to compete in these states in years — and each could open a new path to victory on Election Day.

As a bonus, any donation you make today means you could be selected for a trip to join Barack in Chicago on Election Night. We’ll fly you and a guest in, put you up in a hotel, and make sure you have some of the best seats for our huge public event with tens of thousands of supporters:

Make a donation and you could get a front row seat to history

Volunteers and staff are on the move in these new battleground states, and if we can provide them with the right support, they could put us over the top four days from now.

We can’t take anything for granted, and this election is too important to ignore any potential path to victory. We need your help right now.

Please make a donation to help us to change the electoral map, and bring a real change to our country.

It’s a volatile political landscape, and in the final four days we have to take the fight to our opponents everywhere we can.

Thank you,

David
