Road Blog: Joe Biden in Virginia
September 5, 2008
It was a sunny day in Virginia Beach, Virginia, but instead of heading to the coast, droves of folks made their way to the Virginia Beach Convention Center early in the morning to hear Joe Biden speak at a roundtable event. Joe praised the United States’ military and Americans in the Armed Services. Joe stressed his concern with the repeated deployment of soldiers and the cost of the operation. He said, "America’s not at war folks, the military’s at war." Joe described the needs of veterans returning from war: prosthetics — from the loss of an eye or an arm — and therapy to prevent mental illness, divorce, and suicide. He reiterated that addressing the needs of veterans will be a top priority in the Obama-Biden Administration.
Next, Joe’s motorcade drove north to Manassas, Virginia to the auditorium on George Mason University’s Prince William Campus, where several hundred people listened attentively as Joe spoke about Senator McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. He said that he was impressed with Palin but unimpressed with the fact that he did not hear her speak about health insurance, education, middle class issues, college funding, or any concrete ideas on how to generate more jobs her speech last night. Joe stressed that this election is indeed about issues and that it would affect the next generation of Americans for years to come.
Please enjoy a video clip from Virginia Beach and photographs from the day.
