End the War
August 15 Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies and Vice Presidential running mate Chris Bennett today called for an immediate end to American wars in the Middle East. "We should end the war in Iraq as soon as possible," Bennett said, "and bring out troops home to America." Bennett, 35, served in the Marine Corps, and now lives with his family in Springfield, Illinois.
"We should stop occupying Afghanistan" Phillies added. "We've spent almost seven years and hundreds of lives searching for Bin Ladin. We've killed thousands of Afghanis, and Mr. Bin Ladin's voice is still heard regularly on the airwaves. It's time for a better approach than 'boots wandering the desert'." Phillies, 61, served in the Army Reserves.
Phillies and Bennett condemned the enormous debts the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are placing on the government. "Those debts aren't being paid," they emphasized. "Every future generation will be buried under the debt burden we're creating today. That debt creates spiralling oil prices, a pathetic balance of payments deficit, and increasing unemployment."
Phillies contrasted the Libertarian stand with his opponents' : "McCain wants 100 years of occupation. Obama wants a bigger army. Look at the National Debt. America can't afford McCain, Obama, and their endless military deficit spending."
"George Bush may claim Bin Ladin hates us for our freedoms," Bennett said, "but Bush's totally wrong war is destroying those freedoms. From warrantless wiretaps to the Guantanamo Bay prison camps, the Bush Republican War Party and its Democratic Party allies are destroying the liberties guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights. If you want to save America, there's only one choice this November. The Libertarian choice."

George Phillies is the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire's Presidential candidate. He will appear on the November ballot. Phillies, 61, is a physicist at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His running mate, Chris Bennett, is the first African-American to run for Vice President under the Libertarian Party banner.
