Endorsement from Kenneth Kaplan - [Steering Committee Member, NJ Libertarian Party and former candidate for Governor (for identification only, this is a personal endorsement)] - 5-18-2008
If nothing else, Libertarians tend to be independent thinkers, so I doubt whether endorsements carry much weight, but by sharing my impression of my favorite candidate, perhaps some of you might come to the same conclusion.
It may sound strange to describe such an attractive and personable woman as a pit bull, but I see Christine Smith as just that, a pit bull for liberty. She is the real deal, an uncompromising libertarian. She is one of only 3 or 4 candidates seeking our nomination who deserves serious consideration. Her principled stands on the issues, her forceful delivery, and her willingness to take constructive criticism all mark her as an outstanding candidate. I hope the convention delegates will give her strong consideration.
Will she get media attention? I think her refreshing candor and sincerity will command both media and voter attention. Let’s not delude ourselves, Christine Smith is not likely to be the next President, but neither is she likely to take any stands that will embarrass us because they are not libertarian. I think the delegates need to vet each candidate from that perspective: Will this candidate advance libertarianism and the Libertarian Party or is he or she likely to say things that will misrepresent our ideology and cause us harm for years to come? I think we have a few good candidates who will pass that test and whom I could support with enthusiasm. I just think that Christine’s passion (call it anger if you will, but it is an anger that millions of Americans who are fed up with traditional politicians will relate to) makes her our best choice.
