TaLisa, of Columbus, OH, delivered 15,000 handwritten postcards to a Kentucky campaign office last night to be distributed to undecided female voters in advance of their Tuesday primary. She hopes the postcards with messages from female supporters across the country will be the extra touch that sways voters.

Since the March 4th Ohio primary, the Columbus-based postcard operation has gathered more than 100,000 postcards written by supporters and delivered them to voters in upcoming primary states. TaLisa and her sister, TaKeysha, started Postcards for Votes to further personalize Barack’s message of change.

TaLisa recalls being particularly moved by one postcard from a female soldier stationed in Iraq, whose simple closing words have stuck with her: "Please bring us home." The soldier even sent a money order for the postage that she couldn’t purchase in Iraq.

The program asks women to buy the postcards and stamps and write a short message about why they support Barack. They leave the return and mailing address areas blank, send them to the Columbus office where a crew of volunteers forwards the postcards to undecided voters.

Jessica, from Laurel, MD, wrote postcards from her hospital bed after having a baby with this message:

As a new mom, I took my state’s primary more seriously than ever this year. I wanted to vote for a candidate who could not only help working families through the tough times we’re facing, but also strengthen our nation, morally and financially, to ensure that our children won’t face — or foot the bill for — these same tough times. That is why I voted for Barack Obama. His economic policies are sound and his commitment to working families is unmatched among the remaining candidates. From my growing family to yours, I wish you the best and hope you’ll join me in supporting Senator Obama.

Lisa in Fairfax, VA, finds postcard writing an easy activity while watching her two young kids and has sponsored two postcard writing parties at her local library while her kids were at preschool. On Wednesday, she and several other supporters wrote 300 postcards and are itching to do more after they give their hands some rest.
