Jack Carter, Son Of Pres. Jimmy Carter, Endorses Biden For President

August 27, 2007

Aug. 27: According to “First Read” MSNBC, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden has picked up the the political endorsement today of Jack Carter, the son of former President Jimmy Carter, who ran for U.S. Senate last year.

In announcing his endorsement, Jack Carter noted that Biden was the first senator to support his father in 1975. Moreover, “he was helpful in my own campaign last year,” noted Carter, who was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Nevada last year.

Of Biden, Carter said, “He is experienced, knowledgeable, affable and humorous … with Joe Biden, we don’t have to worry about the problems of lack of experience or high negatives affecting our chances in November 2008.”

Last May I received a note from Ken, a friend of Jack Carter’s. “Erin, I’ve observed Senator Biden for years on TV forums and have always been impressed with his combination of knowledge and conviction.

“Yesterday I got to meet the Senator and his personable wife in Fort Dodge, Iowa and he addressed my concerns regarding the calamity that is Iraq in a way no other candidate has.

“I served in Vietnam along with Jimmy Carter’s oldest son, Jack Carter now of Las Vegas. Jack and his wife urged me to attend the Senator’s luncheon. I intended to do so, but knowing that he had the Carters’ support motivated all the more. I clearly know for whom I’ll caucus next January.

“Senator Biden satisfies a longing in me for someone with experience, creative solutions and the vigor to carry it out. Those who attended reflected my perception as well. The attorney I coerced into going left quite impressed and has abandoned his John Edwards—super lawyer brotherhood connection.

“In a strange way, I feel relieved that I don’t need to search any longer.”

So not only did Mr. Carter officially endorse Sen. Biden’s candidacy, but the big news is that he’s been supporting Sen. Biden for months, behind the scenes.
