Path to Enlightenment
November 19, 2007
For the past decade, I have been trying to understand the universe and our interaction with it. I suspect that this is the goal of any concerned citizen who believes that we have the power to change the status quo and shape our own destiny.
Here are some of the resources that have aided me in my personal path to enlightenment. I firmly believe that whoever watches and listens to these materials (and who is willing to let go of the need to be right) will have similar experiences.
- The Landmark Forum (www.LandmarkEducation.com)
In the “List of the 100 Most Extraordinary Things you can Do in your Lifetime,” The Landmark Forum this is rated second. It helps people live beyond a typical human experience by fostering empowerment, harmony and well-being. This might sound a little “out there”, but it’s really quite transformational!
- The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle (www.eckharttolle.com)
Eckhart Tolle is a modern-day philosopher who teaches that we are in control of our thoughts, egos and the interpretation of the events in our lives.
- The Secret (www.thesecret.tv)
The Oprah Show recently featured The Secret on three different episodes. The Secret explains the Law of Attraction - specifically how thoughts and feelings that are sent into the universe and how the universe responds. Positive thoughts attract positive events and negative thoughts attract more negative results.
- The Omega Institute (www.eomega.org)
- Hollyhock (www.hollyhock.ca)
Hollyhock (Canada) and the Omega Institute (Upstate NY) are holistic retreat centers. They offer private relaxation programs and workshops that encourage attendees to become more open and engaging.
- Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman (www.danmillman.com)
Way of the Peaceful Warrior is a coming-of-age-story that inspires readers to construct their own life journey - a journey that is reflective of growth and a search for inner peace, strength, and above all, happiness. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan at a conference at the Omega Institute.
Through this personal discovery, I’ve learned a few things. Life is not determined by the events you experience, but rather the stories that you attach to those events. You choose which stories to apply to the events in your life: good, bad, or indifferent. Usually, because of instinct, we attach negative meanings to events. However, we are free to create whatever stories we wish. We may change our stories or choose to attach no stories at all. As a result, there is nothing inherently “good” or “bad” in the world. Things are just the way they are.
Our reality is created as we interact with our environment and those around us. Some call this our “collective consciousness.” Don’t worry, this is not a socialist plot, but one that is supported by a growing body of scientific research. For more information, I recommend reading the works of Dr. John Hagelin (www.hagelin.org) or Dr. Fred Allen Wolfe, (www.fredalanwolf.com).
Favorite Resources on Quantum Physics & the Universe
There are many ways to understand our universe and our role in it. In my journey, I prefer to study theories dealing with the perception of reality, including quantum physics and unified field-based consciousness. Much of this work is explained wonderfully in the groundbreaking movie, “What the Bleep Do We Know?” (www.whatthebleep.com) and its sequel, “Down the Rabbit Hole” It should come as no surprise these are some of the most successful independent films of our time.
I particularly love audio Books on Tape. It’s a great tool for busy exeecutives who want to learn something new or be entertained. I just pop a CD into my car as I drive and the entire trip is educational and enjoyable. The Teaching Company (www.Teach12.com) takes the best college lecturers in the world and publishes them on cassettes and CDs. My favorite series is “The Search for Intelligent Beings in the Universe.” However, I’m searching for intelligent Beings in Washington!
